Celebrating Scottish Careers Week 2022

CIAG

In its second year, Scottish Careers Week offered five times as many opportunities to shape the future for people, employers, and organisations across the country.

With over 200 national and local events, organised by Skills Development Scotland and a wide range of local and national partners, the second annual campaign built on the strong foundations set in 2021.

From career fairs in Stornoway to CV workshops in Stranraer, events and activities were spread across Scotland, with opportunities for school pupils, their parents and carers, students in higher and further education, employers, educators, adults, and career practitioners.

I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to all partners, organisations and individuals across Scotland who got behind the campaign. In the current climate, it’s more important than ever that we offer as many opportunities as possible for people to explore their career and education options.

SDS’ Head of CIAG Operations, Sharon McIntyre, said: “The support from colleagues across SDS and our fantastic network of local and national partners enabled us to aim high and beat even our most ambitious targets for this years’ campaign.

“I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to all partners, organisations and individuals across Scotland who got behind the campaign. In the current climate, it’s more important than ever that we offer as many opportunities as possible for people to explore their career and education options.

“With a remarkable increase in the number of events on offer and huge engagement on social media from individuals sharing their #CareerHacks22, partners launching new career resources and organisations getting behind the campaign - it’s clear that this has been a highly successful Scottish Careers Week.”

#CareerHacks22

A highlight from the 2022 campaign was the introduction of the #CareerHacks22 social media campaign. People of all ages, at all stages of their careers, shared their advice with the aim of providing support and inspiration to younger generations.

new page on My World of Work, Scotland’s career information and advice website, hosts all advice shared through Twitter, acting as a legacy of this year’s campaign.

On Friday 11 November, SDS marked the end of Scottish Careers Week with the publication of the fourth annual report on career services, outlining the impact and breadth of service delivery across Scotland.

The national campaign will return for a third year in 2023, with dates confirmed for 13-17 November.

People of all ages can access career support from SDS at any point in the year, with an expert SDS careers adviser in every state secondary school, in SDS centres across Scotland, and a free to call helpline available on 0800 917 8000.
