Edinburgh and South East Scotland Labour Market Toolkit

This toolkit has been developed to ensure that individuals and those that support people to prepare for jobs and careers across the Edinburgh City region have regionally tailored and accessible guidance materials.

The toolkit consists of a range of resources to ensure that there is better awareness of opportunities across the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City region and aims to provide information to help careers advisers support young people and individuals seeking employment or education opportunities.

The toolkit will signpost individuals to the many readily available SDS labour market information resources such as the Regional Skills Assessments and the Data Matrix, alongside helpful information about demand and provision. Within the toolkit you will also find three information packs, which explain common labour market terms to individuals and to help people understand labour market information, in order to use it to inform their career choices and to navigate the labour market.

How to use the toolkit

The toolkit contains three information packs (below) which operate as a ‘how to’ understand labour market information in context across the Edinburgh & South East City Region.

It also contains the Toolkit Resource Map which provides a summary of the resources used in the slides.

Digital Skills Spotlight

The importance of data skills is being recognised in a large number and diverse range of job roles, and are central to the Scottish and regional economy. With digital technology and data at the heart of many businesses, the role of digital skills and data literacy is becoming increasingly important.

The following resources identify upskilling opportunities to help individuals improve their digital skills set and highlight the role that digital and data plays in the economy:

More information

These resources contain sample data and therefore will not have the very most up-to-date numbers.

However, the LMI Toolkit Map links to resources such as the Regional Skills Assessments and the COVID-19 LMI insights, to allow users of the toolkit to find real time data, and to understand it with the support of the information packs.

The purpose of the toolkit is to enable careers information, advice and guidance staff as well as individuals in the labour market, to access relevant labour market information and to feel confident making data informed decisions. By doing so, individuals can make evidence-based decisions about their career paths and identify areas of opportunity within the labour market.
