The subjects we choose in school are often where we take the first steps in our career journey.

We want to help pupils develop the skills needed to make confident decisions that will lead them to jobs suited to their talents, interests and goals.

Our careers advisers support pupils in S2 and S3 who are about to make their subject choices by facilitating group sessions.

These sessions progressively build their career management skills so that young people can make more informed subject choices.

The sessions:

  • Promote the development of career management skills
  • Prepare pupils for key decision making
  • Challenge traditional gender stereotypes within certain jobs
  • Explore the wide range of career routes and pathways available to them
  • Introduce the My World of Work subject choices tool. Pupils can type in up to six subjects and the tool finds jobs where these subjects would be useful
