New chapter for career services in Oban

Residents in Oban are set to benefit from changes to the career service

CIAG

Residents in Oban are set to benefit from changes to the career service.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is changing location as part of a drive to help more people through partnership working in community venues. SDS advisers offer free, impartial career information, advice and guidance in secondary schools and for people of all ages across Scotland.

SDS is moving to a new venue in the JobCentre Plus building in Mathieson House on the town’s Miller Road and will be available for appointments from Wednesday 27 March. As part of the change, the team moved out of the career centre on Albany Street on Thursday 14 March.

Anthony Standing, SDS Head of Operations North explains: “Although we’re moving out of our centre in Albany Street, our team in Oban will continue to provide professionally qualified careers advice in our new shared space in Mathieson House alongside our partners from JobCentre Plus. Our advisers support anyone looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break.

“Mathieson House is an accessible location for our customers and just a short distance away from our current base. We’ll be up and running there from Wednesday 27 March and people will be able to meet with our advisers by appointment. In the meantime, customers can call us on 01631 564 697 to discuss this change or to make an appointment with an adviser.”

Anthony added: “We’re looking forward to working alongside the JobCentre Plus team and continuing to deliver exceptional levels of service to residents in Oban and the surrounding area.”

Catriona Cameron, DWP Work Coach Team Leader, said: “The team at Oban Jobcentre are looking forward to welcoming SDS in their relocation to our site. Networking and close working relationships with our partners are a vital part of our service delivery, especially in an area which is so geographically diverse.
“This co-location will afford us the opportunity to establish new ways to work together to support our customers and communities.”

Customers can contact the local SDS team on 01631 564 697, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
