Apprenticeships events set to run across North Lanarkshire

Young people and their parents and carers across North Lanarkshire have the chance to find out about apprenticeship opportunities from a programme of local and national events running throughout Scottish Apprenticeship Week, 4-8 March.

Apprenticeships CIAG

The Week is delivered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the national skills agency, and supported by a number of partners and employers including North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Developing the Young Workforce.

Free information sessions and events will take place online and in schools and colleges across the region - including Cumbernauld, Bellshill, Airdrie, Motherwell and Wishaw - and will showcase the range of apprenticeships available, future opportunities and how to apply for them.

Kevin Nolan, team leader at SDS North Lanarkshire, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for young people to develop the skills that employers need while getting qualified. Scottish Apprenticeship Week offers a great opportunity to find out what’s on offer now and in the future and we want as many people as possible to benefit from the range of events.

“Our careers advisers will be on hand to offer expert advice and information. They’re also available throughout the year in schools, and in our career centres or community venues across North Lanarkshire, to offer free career advice and guidance to people of all ages including how to find, apply and get into apprenticeships.”

There’s also free events to support local employers take on apprentices, including a one hour webinar run by Scottish Chambers of Commerce and SDS in association with the Federation of Small Businesses and Scottish Training Federation.

“Our careers advisers will be on hand to offer free career advice and guidance to people of all ages including how to find, apply and get into apprenticeships.”

Scottish Apprenticeship Week celebrates the benefits apprenticeships bring to individuals, businesses and the economy. The theme for this year’s campaign is Skills Generation, recognising that apprenticeships create the skills every generation needs and every employer wants. This year’s campaign shows that apprenticeships give people high-quality opportunities that supports them to achieve their full potential.  Find out more by visiting apprenticeships.scot/scotappweek
