Construction and the Built Environment

Inside Scotland's Construction & Built Environment sector

Construction

Last year the construction sector employed around 190,000 people in Scotland and is predicted to need at least 10,000 more people by 2028.

Construction is complex and require a huge range of expertise and skills to take a project from planning and design, through build, to post construction checks.

While traditional roles remain important, new and emerging roles in areas like green construction and technological innovation offer diverse opportunities.

The following videos were recorded during the SDS Sector LMI sessions running during January - June 2025.

Presenters used data from the Sectoral Skills Assessment reports from 2024.
