Universal professional learning offer

The offer includes a national programme of professional learning (PL) workshops, sharing interesting practice (SIP) sessions, and supporting resources that help practitioners build their understanding and confidence over time.   It aims to provide a common foundation while allowing individuals and establishments to engage with themes that are most relevant to their needs.

National programme of professional learning (PL) workshops and sharing interesting practice (SIP) sessions

Our national programme will be delivered through two learning cycles, September 2026 to December 2026 (cycle 1) and January 2027 to May 2027 (cycle 2), giving educators multiple opportunities to engage with key career education themes while providing greater flexibility and accessibility throughout the academic year.

This toolkit has been developed through consultation with educators and other partners to create a suite of resources that will support practitioners embed skills in a manageable and sustainable way.

Leading Professional Learning resources

This collection of resources is for use by those leading professional learning in their school or educational setting and have been informed by the national model of professional learning.

Embedding skills audit: a structured hands-on approach for schools to reflect on how skills are being embedded and identify next steps using the skills audit toolkit. It provides education setting with a skills baseline for future benchmarking, aids familiarisation, helps identify and share effective practice and supports planning for improvement.

Understanding Career Management Skills: an interactive workshop that introduces CMS, considers how these competencies are already part of day-to-day learning and teaching and explores practical approaches to further develop young people’s CMS as an integral part of the curriculum.

Self-directed Professional Learning activities

Our suite of self-directed professional learning activities build upon the original suite of career education learning resources and have been updated to included current policy, research and new activities.   They can be used by individuals or as a small group to increase knowledge, share practice and support planning for improvement.
