SDS publishes Children’s Rights Report 2026-29
The actions Skills Development Scotland will take to uphold children’s rights have been outlined in a new report.
The Children’s Rights Report 2026-29 explains how children’s rights will continue to sit at the heart of what SDS does, and how we will maximise opportunities to advance children’s rights through our work.
These rights are laid out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which cover a range of areas including being safe from harm, having access to education and opportunities to develop to their full potential, being free from discrimination, and having their voices heard.

Damien Yeates, Chief Executive of SDS, said:
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child provides the framework to ensure every child’s full potential to is reached, and SDS is proud to embed children’s rights throughout everything we do.
We recognise the importance of upholding the UNCRC so that we get it right for every child in Scotland.
We take great pride in supporting Scotland’s children, to help them make informed decisions around their learning and work.
Children’s rights are an integral part of the services SDS delivers, including providing young people with clear, reliable and trustworthy information; supporting young people to develop their career management skills; giving young people a say in the public services that affect them, and ensuring those facing additional barriers get the support they need.
The report details the work which has taken place across SDS over the past three years, and the actions we will take over the next three years to further embed children’s rights into our planning, decision-making, and service delivery.
