Career Stories with Màiri McAllan MSP

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, Màiri McAllan MSP joined podcast host and careers adviser Carrie Stewart for a special Results Helpline focused episode of Career Stories.

Ms. McAllan was keen to learn more about the role Skills Development Scotland careers advisers have when it comes to supporting people with their exam results.

Carrie talked about her own positive experience as an adviser on the helpline and explained to the Cabinet Secretary what young people, their parents and carers can expect when they call.

Carrie also highlighted some of the common questions callers have as well as potential options young people can explore, whether results were better, worse or as expected.

However, it wouldn’t be a Career Stories episode without hearing about Ms. McAllan’s own career to date. Still only 33 years old, she has served as Cabinet Secretary in various portfolios including Housing and Net Zero as well as previously serving a Special Adviser to the First Minister.

She talks about her past life as a corporate lawyer at Harper MacLeod and her advocacy for human rights through her co-founded organisation, RebLaw. She also gives insight into her own experience of jangling nerves waiting on exam results coming through the letterbox.
