Parliament passes Tertiary Education and Training Bill

Apprenticeships

Scottish Parliament has passed the Tertiary Education and Training (Funding and Governance) Bill which will bring together funding for all post-school education, including apprenticeships and national training programmes, into a redesigned Scottish Funding Council.

Chair of Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Frank Mitchell said:

“Since SDS was established in 2008, the organisation has overseen a major expansion of Scottish Apprenticeships.

“With the support of businesses across Scotland, SDS has trebled the annual number of Modern Apprenticeship opportunities, whilst designing, developing and scaling Foundation and Graduate Apprenticeships.

“Scottish Apprenticeships are internationally recognised for their quality and we are proud of our track record in advocating passionately for the benefits of work-based learning.

“We are hugely grateful to SDS colleagues, and our Trade Union partners who have shown remarkable resilience in the context of significant uncertainty over recent years and have remained focused on our delivery of high-quality apprenticeships.

“We are working in collaboration with the Scottish Funding Council to ensure a smooth transition of these responsibilities which protects apprentices, their employers, learning providers and the jobs of staff who deliver Scottish Apprenticeships.”
