National skills agency opens entries for Scottish Apprenticeship Awards

A nationwide search for Scotland’s top apprentices and employers is underway.

The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards spotlight apprentices, employers and learning providers from across the country working in a range of sectors.

The awards, organised by Skills Development Scotland and now in their 24th year, celebrate the vital benefits apprenticeships bring to people, businesses and the economy.

Made for individuals and industry

Skills Development Scotland Chair, Frank Mitchell said: “Apprenticeships are central to Scotland’s economic success, offering people from all backgrounds high quality opportunities to develop skills, gain experience and build successful careers.

“Designed by employers to meet industry needs, apprenticeships also deliver the sustainable skills, talent and innovation businesses need.

“The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the significant achievements of apprentices, and the essential role of employers and learning providers who invest in and support work-based learning.”

Delivering critical skills and impact

Award categories include Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices due to complete their apprenticeship in 2025.

A specialist category will also spotlight apprentices working to support Scotland’s net zero goals.

The businesses who enable apprentices to succeed are also set to be recognised through categories highlighting the critical support of employers and learning providers.

Minister for Higher and Further Education, Graeme Dey said: “Apprenticeships provide vital opportunities for young people to acquire key skills and a pathway into rewarding careers, helping the economy and delivering the skills employers and industry need.

“The Scottish Government’s priority is for high-quality apprenticeships that create sustainable jobs, supporting our commitment to a wellbeing economy and drive for net zero emissions by 2045.

“These awards are an important opportunity to celebrate the innovation and impact of apprentices across the country, and the collaboration between employers and learning providers that drives success.”
