The Furniture industry is of significant importance to the UK economy, particularly in the supply of end products for residential and commercial living/work places.
The industry is one of the largest in the Proskills sector, employing more than 116,000 people in some 9,100 companies, with a total turnover of more than £11billion.
Companies are frequently small, with 81% of all Furniture organisations having between 2 and 9 employees. Just 5% of organisations have more than 50 employees, but they account for more than 53% of the total workforce, and thus have a significant influence on the industry.
