Lantra is the Sector Skills Council which supports skills and training for people and businesses in the land-based and environmental sector.

They cover 16 occupational areas grouped around:

  • Land management and production
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Environmental industries

Horticulture is a diverse industry covering a wide range of job roles, including: hard, soft and interior landscaping, sports turf and golf greenkeeping, private, heritage and botanic gardens, commercial grounds, public parks and green spaces. LANTRA has developed a Modern Apprenticeship in Horticulture at two different levels to support the skills needs of the sector in Scotland.

The Level 2 framework was updated in March 2014 to add Production Horticulture GJ3L 22 (City & Guilds).
