Lantra is the Sector Skills Council which supports skills and training for people and businesses in the land-based and environmental sector.

They cover 16 occupational areas grouped around:

  • Land management and production
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Environmental industries

The Equine industry covers a broad area of work, including riding schools, livery yards, competition yards, clubs, instructors and racing yards.

Apprentices will with a wide range of horses and people and will carry out activities such as grooming, mucking out and maintaining the welfare of horses.

LANTRA has developed a Modern Apprenticeship in Equine at two different levels to support the skills needs of the sector in Scotland.
