Payroll services form part of the financial and business services sector, identified by the Scottish Government as a growth sector.

In 2012, this sector's Gross Value Added per person employed was £87,000 in Scotland (Sector Skills Assessment, Skills for Justice, 2012) - the UK's equivalent figure was £61,000.

Financial and Legal Skills Partnership has developed a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 to support the growth of the sector in Scotland.

The aim is to provide the profession with new entrants who will develop the knowledge and understanding they need to become a competent employee working within a payroll environment, and provide a credible pathway for young people who wish to progress into a career in financial administration within the private or public sector.

This framework is available for use from 12th January 2015.
