Investors in Young People (IIYP) award reaffirms SDS’s commitment to harnessing the talent of young people and the best possible services.

IIYP recognises organisations as an employer of choice, recognising practices and pathways that have positive outcomes for young people and creating a talent pool for the future, helping reduce youth unemployment.

SDS has held IIYP since 2015 and were re-accredited at the Gold Level in 2018 as a measure of organisational capability and performance.

“Unswerving commitment”

Remarkable, the organisation responsible for delivering IIP accreditation in Scotland, assessed SDS’s Youth Strategy, culture and working practices, and invited colleagues throughout Scotland to be interviewed virtually.

The assessment findings highlight that SDS exemplifies the wider and more stretching elements of the IIYP framework.

Remarkable commended SDS’s “unswerving commitment” to its Youth Strategy, as well as SDS’s willingness to lead by example through its commitment to developing young people across the organisation.

Frank Mitchell, SDS Chair, said: “The IIYP Platinum award demonstrates SDS’s strong commitment to harnessing the talent of young people, and we’re delighted to have been recognised for our efforts.

All our colleagues play a crucial role in supporting and enabling our young people. I want to thank them for helping us achieve this accreditation.

Our young people are the future leaders of SDS. They remain integral to decision-making across the organisation, providing fresh perspectives on how we can creatively work to continuously improve on the way we deliver our services.”

Co-chairs of the SDS Youth Board, Natalie Bell and Louise Carrigan said:

“Through the Youth Board we experience first-hand the value that SDS places on young people across the organisation.

“We’re encouraged to take every opportunity to develop and showcase our talents and ideas, allowing us to make a real difference to the outcomes of young people across Scotland in the design of SDS products and services.”

One of only three organisations in Scotland to achieve Platinum Level

Emily McKerchar, Client Engagement Director at Remarkable, the home of Investors in Young People said,

“This is a fantastic achievement, we whole heartedly congratulate SDS on achieving the Platinum Level Investors in Young People (IIYP) 3rd Generation Good Practice Award.

“In achieving Platinum Level, SDS has demonstrated significant strength in how they support and deliver their youth strategy. It is evident that Leaders are both committed to and enthusiastic about supporting Young People. It is also clear that their Young People are encouraged to develop and progress, have a voice and feel empowered within the organisation.

“This is a notable achievement as SDS’s approaches and practices align with, and exemplify, the wider and more stretching elements of the 3rd generation IIYP framework. SDS are currently one of only three organisations in Scotland to have achieved Platinum Level IIYP which further demonstrates their absolute commitment to attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining their Young People”.

Remarkable Specialist Sheila Anderson said,

“SDS fully deserve the Platinum award and I was delighted to recognise their performance at this level.

“They have created a culture that supports Young People to develop their capabilities and skills for the future.

“The whole organisation is committed to giving and gaining the best from the Young People who join”
