In the last few months, Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has established a new National Career Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) Education team.

This new team brings together the former Education and STEM team with the Partner Development and Integration (PD&I) team to deliver a new and improved career education service offer to our schools, local authorities and wider education partners.

Since the publication of the Career Education Standard in 2015, both of these teams within SDS have been supporting key influencers in their roles to help young people better understand the world of work and make smart, informed choices at points of change and transition. Bringing these teams together will strengthen that support.

The expectations of SDS in supporting young people’s career education fall into three main areas:
• delivering a high quality CIAG service offer
• developing resources that support partners
• delivering professional learning.

The National CIAG Education team will assist us in addressing these expectations in the fullest way and is led by Ken Edwards, Education Programme Lead. Ken is supported by three Education Managers each with responsibility for a team of Education Executives.

Claire, Tom and George are the first point of contact for schools, colleges and other partners in their respective regions.

“The importance of career education has never been greater with the challenges and complexities that Covid-19 has brought. The formation of a National CIAG Education team is an exciting opportunity to bring a more integrated approach to this work and I’m delighted at the opportunity to work with a team of highly committed and professional colleagues to help us realise this.”
