Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop has today announced details of the first organisations to back the £60 million Young Person’s Guarantee.

SSE, Cap Gemini, The Scottish Government, NHS Lothian and Standard Life Aberdeen have all joined the commitment to ensure everyone aged between 16 and 24 has the opportunity of work, education or training

The Young Person’s Guarantee aims to ensure everyone between 16 and 24 in Scotland will have the opportunity to access support that will help them into fair employment including work experience, further or higher education, apprenticeships or other training programmes, formal volunteering or a supported activity programme.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has worked in strong partnership with a range of organisations to inform and shape The Scottish Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee activity plan, also published today.

SDS has continued to adapt and scale our delivery since the beginning of the pandemic and is in a strong position to support this critical drive to ensure that young peoples’ futures don’t suffer as a result of COVID-19.

James Russell, SDS’s Director of CIAG Operations

The activity plan recognises that Scotland has strong foundations to build from and focuses on enhancing the strengths in existing work that supports the needs of young people.

This includes existing SDS services such as our career information advice and guidance, work-based learning pathways and skills alignment, which continue to adapt to the needs of young people through the pandemic.

SDS’s Director of CIAG Operations James Russell said: “SDS has continued to adapt and scale our delivery since the beginning of the pandemic and is in a strong position to support this critical drive to ensure that young peoples’ futures don’t suffer as a result of COVID-19.

“We are committed to working collaboratively with local and national partners to ensure that young people get access to the right support to help them succeed.”
