Ruth Jennings, Chair of the Apprenticeship Approvals Group

The new Apprenticeship Approvals Group will formally take over the approval of all Scottish Apprenticeships from tomorrow, 1 April. 

The Apprenticeship Approval Group puts employers at the forefront and heralds a significant change in the governance of Scottish Apprenticeships. It replaces the Modern Apprenticeship Group which formally dissolves todaytaking full responsibility for the approval of all Foundation, Graduate and Modern Apprenticeships going forward.  

This follows a transitional period from late 2019, where both groups ran concurrently, with the previous Modern Apprentice Group still handling existing cases under its remit. 

This new approval group was initiated by the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board’s Standards and Frameworks Group (SAAB SFG), which called for consistent, coherent governance across all apprenticeships 

The aim of Apprenticeship Approvals Group is to provide high quality and independent assurance of apprenticeships in Scotland and ensure employers play a central role in the development and governance of these 

Membership includes employers, apprentices and key stakeholders delivering and developing education and skills in Scotland 

The group will work closely with the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board (SAAB) Standards and Frameworks group.
