Supporting Muslim Women and Minority Ethnic Groups into Apprenticeships

Amina aims to inspire Muslim women to fulfil their true potential and empower them to participate fully in all aspects of society, without fear of discrimination or inequality.

  • Understand why we need to focus on increasing participation in apprenticeships by Muslim and minority ethnic groups

Action to Recruit Female Apprentices in STEM Sectors

Equate Scotland makes a positive difference for women in science, engineering, technology and the built environment.  Established in 2006, Equate Scotland is the national expert in gender equality throughout the STEM sectors. Equate Scotland works alongside industry, academia, the Scottish Government and public bodies, creating positive changes in employment practices and workplace cultures to support the recruitment, retention and progression of women in STEM.

  • Review unconscious bias in the STEM workplace and how it affects our decision making.
  • Gain knowledge of the practical steps needed to encourage talented women to join and stay in STEM apprenticeships.
  • Consider the role of language, design and marketing in both the workplace and during recruitment.

Take Action to Support Disabled Apprentices

The largest disabled persons’ organisation in the UK with over 4000 members, GDA builds disabled people’s confidence, connections and contributions.  GDA works with disabled people of all ages and with any type of impairment and offers accessible programmes of learning.  GDA believes that for policy and practice to truly change and to improve for disabled people, professionals must be informed and empowered.  The voices and experience of disabled people are essential in this process, offering critical insights, analysis and solutions.  GDA support a range of organisations and partners to involve disabled people in making services more accessible.

Signing up for this session will provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space to:

  • Discuss and explore concerns and anxieties around supporting disabled apprentices
  • Understand and be better informed about the support available for disabled apprentices
  • Identify actions that you can implement to improve your practice in regard to the recruitment and support of disabled apprentices.

How to become a Disability Confident employer

In partnership with Glasgow Department for Work and Pensions, SDS would like to invite you to a session designed to provide you with further information to support your disabled employees, trainees and apprentices.  This session will offer employers and training providers the opportunity to find out more about Disability Confident, Access to Work funding, taking on disabled apprentices or converting existing employees to apprentices, the Scottish Employer Recruitment Incentive and further information on equality and diversity.

The session will be interactive, with the opportunity to meet representatives from other organisations and learn firsthand how others have employed and retained disabled people. There will also be a small number of exhibitors available to speak with.
