Skills Development Scotland (SDS) launched a series of Making Skills Work for Employers events at GTG Training in Glasgow.

Employers included Sterling Furniture Group, Scotrail, Impact Results Ltd and grassroots charity FARE.

SDS Employer Engagement Manager Derek Cairns, said: “We had a great turnout to the first of the Making Skills Work for Employers event.

“These events aim to inform employers of the expansion of apprenticeships, the wider Apprenticeship Family and the benefits of work-based learning to business.

“SDS is here to help employers, offering support for business and providing information and assistance.”

Employers heard more about the range of Modern Apprenticeships on offer; as well as new Foundation Apprenticeships for school pupils and Graduate Level Apprenticeships.

Interactive workshop sessions focused on young talent management and equality and diversity.

Employers discussed ideas in groups, shared examples of challenges they have faced, solutions they have adopted and successes stories.

Impact Results Ltd Training and Recruitment Manager, Garry Walker, said: “It was a fantastic, interactive event with lots of different people from different organisations.

“It’s a great opportunity to build partnerships within the business community and to share ideas for strengthening your workforce.

“Apprenticeships mean we can build the skillset for our existing employees and new employees as well. They’ve increased morale, confidence and productivity.”

Over the coming months, SDS is running a series of events for employers from small and medium sized businesses who are interested in developing work-based learning programmes and apprenticeships.

These events will be held all across Scotland with SDS employer services staff on-hand to offer practical advice about the support and funding available to recruit apprentices.
