Foundation Apprenticeship Training Providers can view COVID-19 interim measures below, offering advice, support and relevant contact information.

Updated 7 April 2020

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, SDS recognises that there are a number of continued challenges facing some learning providers to fully deliver Foundation Apprenticeships. SDS requests that you stay in close contact with your Development & Delivery Executive or Contracts & Performance Adviser and continue to notify us of any further disruption to your service.

It is extremely important during this period of disruption that the schools, learners, their parents/guardians, employers and SDS are kept up-to-date with what happens next, this is particularly important for learners who fall in to the categories below:

  • Completers – FA learners who are due to complete their Foundation Apprenticeship this academic year
  • Year 2 Returners – FA learners who will be going in to year 2 in the next academic year
  • Recruitment – applicants who have selected a Foundation Apprenticeship which starts in the next academic year

We are keen that any interruption to delivery does not lead to individuals or employers disengaging, and therefore request where possible that you or a representative are able to attend the SDS Community of Practice Webinar on Thursday 9th April 2pm – 4pm which will be focusing on the innovative approaches identified in the learning provider responses to our recent survey. Thank you to all of you who responded to the survey.

To maintain learner progression and FA delivery, where possible there are instances emerging of learning providers identifying different methods of delivery such as virtual learning instead of face-to-face classroom-based activity. Can you please ensure any variations to FA delivery are appropriate, approved by the awarding body and that you advise SDS of these changes.

SDS have published FAQs on the corporate website which we will continue to update as and when appropriate. If you have a question which is not answered in the published FAQs, please submit it to
