The programme in more detail

Graduate Interns

Build on the skills you developed at university and get your graduate career off to a perfect start.

During this one year role you’ll have the opportunity learn on the job and apply your skills to projects within your team. There are positions across SDS including: employer services, finance and audit, service development, digital, marketing, procurement and policy.

Trainee Careers Advisers

As a Trainee Careers Adviser, you can expect to be working in schools or in career centres across Scotland.

You’ll be learning from professionally qualified careers staff who will support you to provide great advice and coaching to young people and adults.

The programme has three entry points depending on if you’re a recent school or college leaver or already have a degree. Each entry point lasts two years:

Stage one: A  traineeship supporting school or college leavers to achieve an SVQ Level 3 (SCQF 7) in career development.

Stage two: A technical apprenticeship designed for individuals who are educated to HNC or equivalent SCQF level. You will undertake a SVQ (SCQF Level 9) in Career Information, Advice and Employability Support.

Stage three: A traineeship designed for graduates. You will complete the SDS Trainee Careers Adviser Development Plan and a Post Graduate Qualification in Careers Guidance and Development (QCGD) as a distance learning course.

Modern Apprenticeships

With a Modern Apprenticeship you’ll learn on the job and get the experience you need to progress your career. Plus, you work towards an industry recognised qualification (SVQ).

This two year programme puts you in an administrative or customer service facing role where you’ll split the day-to-day tasks given out by your team with evidenced learning to pass graded units.
