Get Ready for Work

What is Get Ready for Work?

Skills such as reading, writing and numeracy are essential for the world of work. Get Ready for Work helps 16-19 year olds plug any gaps in these skills so they can feel confident about finding a job.

How does it work?

A careers adviser meets with the young person to talk through their needs. They'll find a suitable training provider who will work with the trainee for up to six months, preparing them to find a job suited to what they can - and want to - do. The provider will continue to support the young person and their new employer for the first six months of their new job.  Details of the courses on offer are available on the national learning opportunities database.  Please note you must enter 'Get Ready for Work' in the subject field of the course search to obtain the most relevant results.

How much does it cost?

It's free for trainees, what's more they will receive a training allowance if they participate full-time. We may also be able to help trainees with travel expenses.

I would like to take part, how do I get involved?

If you're 16-19 years old and keen to take part, contact Careers Scotland  or call 0845 8 502 502. An adviser will talk you through your options and ensure that this is the right programme for you.
