Skills Development Scotland’s Exam Results Helpline is open for calls as thousands of young people across the country receive their grades.

The free* helpline is open from 8am to 8pm today and tomorrow, and from 9am to 5pm weekdays until Wednesday 14 August offering career information, advice and guidance to young people and their parents and carers.

The number to call is 0808 100 8000.

John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education & Skills, visited the helpline to meet the expert careers advisers who will be answering calls.

He said: “I want to wish everyone receiving exam results the very best of luck and offer my congratulations on the culmination of all your hard work.

“This is an extremely significant time but it is important to remember that this is the start of a journey, not the end. If your results are what you hoped for that is great news but if you miss out on the grades you were looking for, or do even better than expected, there is a huge variety of options available to you that the SDS careers advisers are on hand to talk through.”

The skilled professionals have unique access to information on UCAS course vacancies at UK colleges and universities, Confirmation and Clearing, advice about Modern, Foundation and Graduate Apprenticeships and jobs or volunteering.

James Russell, Skills Development Scotland Director of Career Information, Advice & Guidance Operations said: “If your results aren’t what you expected don’t panic, you have lots of options.

“Skills Development Scotland is Scotland’s career service and our experienced advisers are here to help you and your parents and carers with information on all the options and opportunities available to you.”

The helpline’s advisers will also be available via social media to answer queries via direct message, simply search for My World of Work on Facebook or Twitter.

For those who would rather talk face-to-face, SDS careers advisers are available year-round in every state secondary school in Scotland and at SDS’s network of centres across the country.

Results information and advice is also available on Scotland’s careers website My World of Work.
