Skills Development Scotland and Girl Geek Scotland are looking to hear from schools, tech businesses and organisations interested in supporting mentors and role models for female school pupils.

A nationwide survey – open until Thursday 23 February – invites educators, organisations and employers to contribute to the development of a new framework to support mentoring and role models that will help encourage girls into a digital technology career.

The initiative aims to support school age girls across Scotland and is funded by the Scottish Government through the Digital Scotland Business Excellence Partnership.

Get involved

Within technology circles there are some great initiatives offering female role models and mentoring. This project aims to support existing (local and national) networks and tech employers that can provide role models and mentoring to school age girls.

There are two surveys:

  1. For primary and secondary schools: If your school has already developed a mentoring or role model scheme, or has worked with an external organisation that delivered one.
  2. For organisations and institutions: If you work in an organisation that has already delivered or can deliver role models or mentoring projects to school aged children during 2017.

Both surveys are designed in three parts:

  • Part 1 will help us develop a directory of organisations that can offer mentoring or role model support to school aged children
  • Part 2 will help us identify some best-practice case-studies as promotional material, and
  • Part 3 will help us identify candidates for workshops, to help us develop supporting resources for mentors and role models going into school

Who can take part?

If you work in an organisation or institution without previous mentoring or role model experience in schools we'd still like to hear from you so that we can add your details to our directory for schools:

  • Primary and secondary school teachers
  • Apprenticeship and graduate schemes
  • College and Universities
  • Digital Technology Employers
  • Other organisations working within digital technology

The deadline for completing the survey is Thursday 23 February 2017.
