Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and
Lifelong Learning, yesterday launched 5000 Flexible Training
Opportunities to help small businesses invest in learning and
development for their employees.
The programme, available through Skills Development Scotland
and supported by the European Social Fund, aims to help small
businesses become more resilient through the current period of
economic recovery by providing funding for the uptake of skills
that will contribute to business productivity and success.
Flexible Training Opportunities gives Scottish businesses with1-50
employees the opportunity to have up to 50% of their employee
training costs paid for with an overall maximum of £500 per
employee. Eligible training opportunities include learning
based on national occupational standards, industry recognised
qualifications, first line supervisory management and
workshops.
Mr Brown made the announcement at the Scottish Council for
Development and Industry's Future Skills Taskforce, where over 200
thought-leaders, business and economic experts, skills specialists,
trade unions and young people, came together to debate and discuss
the challenges of securing sustainable employment for Scotland's
young people.
