Over 90 of Edinburgh's young unemployed were given help finding
"Ways to Work" at an event held this week.
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) invited training providers,
employers and other learning providers who currently offer
opportunities for young people, to meet with 16-19 year olds
looking to take a step on to their career path.
Patricia Thomson, SDS's Area Manager for Edinburgh said: "The
'Ways to Work' event was a great opportunity for young people to
access a wide range of local organisations together under one roof.
They were able to find out essential information about programmes
to suit them and we received very positive feedback.
"All training providers and employers attending had positions
they were recruiting to on the day, such as Modern Apprenticeships
or the Get Ready for Work programme. The event allowed them to meet
young people and match them to suitable opportunities which
resulted in many being referred on to a programme."
The event was held at SDS's careers centre in Edinburgh on
January 31. All 92 young people who attended the event were offered
follow-up support by an SDS adviser.
Those who were unable to attend can visit SDS's interactive
careers website My World of Work (www.myworldofwork.co.uk) or visit
their local centre to speak to an
adviser.
