Pupils from over 120 Scottish schools took part in this year's
Stock Market Challenge events, which took place between November
2009 and February 2010 in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The competition, now in its seventh year, is delivered by Skills
Development Scotland and sponsored by BNP Paribas Securities
Services and Standard Life.
Five challenges took place between November 2009 and February
2010 in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, aimed at teaching pupils how
financial markets work.
Working in small teams, the S3 pupils were challenged to use
their skills to manage a portfolio of shares and foreign
currencies. The participating teams made their investment decisions
by interpreting and analysing information from the financial
markets and simulated live trading was held over a two-hour period.
The team with the highest portfolio at the closing bell was named
the winner.
Callander's McLaren High School stormed the trading room floor,
finishing with an exceptionally well-managed fund of £143,700, the
highest total achieved out of the five winning schools.
