Skills in Focus is a series of events organised
by the Skills Committee* to stimulate debate around current skills
issues.
Attendees at the events include senior representatives from
skills organisations in Scotland and beyond, including policy
makers, public sector organisations with learning and skills
interests; and employer bodies from the key economic sectors
identified by Scottish Government.
Skills in Focus is sponsored by Skills Development Scotland and
the Scottish Funding Council.
* The Skills Committee is jointly led by the Scottish Funding
Council and Skills Development Scotland. It is a strategic
committee to support and advise our respective Boards on the skills
challenges in Scotland. The committee works closely with the
Scottish Government, employers, business organisations and students
to ensure that Scotland has the right high-level skills and an
employable and adaptive workforce.
The second Skills in Focus event took place in Atlantic Quay,
Glasgow, on Friday 16 December 2011, hosted by Paul McKelvie OBE,
Chair of the Skills Committee.
The event was a double-header, with presentations from Professor
Alan Felstead and Andy Hirst. Alan Felstead is an internationally
recognised expert on skills and training, and Andy Hirst is a
leading expert in economic policy evaluation.
