This was an event open to Scottish stakeholders, where four
Ph.D. students from the Scottish Centre for Employment Research
(SCER) and Professor Chris Warhurst presented on aspects of the
Scottish labour market.
The research, supported by the Scottish Government, the Wise Group
and the Economic and Social Research Council, was conducted by four
PhD students at the SCER based in Strathclyde University. It
covered graduate jobs, the intermediate labour market and jobs at
the lower end of the occupational scale, as well as specific
research into opportunities for the unemployed.
The launch event included an introduction by Dr. Andre Reibig from
the Scottish Funding Council and an overview of the programme by
Professor Chris Warhurst from Strathclyde University alongside a
presentation from each of the students on their findings.
The event concluded with a question and answer session chaired by
Patrick Watt, our Head of Labour Market Research - a new team which
has been created within Strategic Relations in recognition of the
important role LMI plays in understanding skills needs and
developing solutions. Working with key partners in this way helps
us to achieve our overarching goals as an organisation. By striving
to understand Scotland's labour market, we're better able to
support individuals to fulfil their full potential, matching their
skills to the skills demands of employers.
