Get to know Skills Development Scotland
Our beginnings
Skills Development Scotland began life in 2007 to make the vision set out in the Scottish Government's skills strategy 'Skills for Scotland: A Lifelong Skills Strategy' a reality.
We were created by the Scottish Government and are a non-departmental public body, so we're accountable to Scottish Ministers.
We were formed from some of the key players in the country's learning and skills sector - Careers Scotland, the Scottish University for Industry, and elements of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Our aim
We want to drive real and positive change in Scotland's skills performance. And we'll get there by giving people the opportunity to realise and fulfil their potential, and by helping employers to be more successful by developing their staff. We will work with other learning and skills organisations to enhance Scotland's sustainable economic development.
Our people
Skills Development Scotland has 1,390 dedicated employees working across Scotland. Each of us is passionate about the positive potential of learning on the future of Scotland and its people. We're led by an inspirational Board - eight visionary individuals acknowledged throughout Scotland, the UK and internationally for their achievements in public and private sector business.
They are, Willy Roe, our Chair; Damien Yeates, Chief Executive; and our non-executive Board members: Evelyn McCann, William Stevely, Anne Douglas, Janet Lowe, Alan McGregor and Cay Stratton. Find out more about our board members here.
